The Western Australian Ballet School recently located to their new premises in the Perth suburb of Maylands after a 12 Million dollar refurbishment of the building. The building was previously the site of the WA Blind Institute, and was scheduled for a facelift. After 2 years of fundraising, and with the assistance of Lotterywest and the WA Government, the grand building was officially opened in April 2012.
Part of the refurbishment program was to build a new disabled access ramp at the front the building, along with upgrading the existing steps. As a cost saving measure, Planet Lighting HLS LED Handrail minipucks were installed in the new handrail, rather than the old style “bricklights” in the walls. This was also to reduce the cosmetic look at the front of the building, as during the day the lights ‘disappear’ and create a feature in the evening for night classes.
