Westfield Stratford Steps are located right in the heart of the Olympic Gateway. To ensure adequate lighting of the steps leading from Stratford Station up to the Shopping Mall and the Olympic Gateway, specifiers chose the powerful HLS LED handrail minipuck. At only 1.5W the HLS minipuck has a light output of up to 150 lumens and achieves excellent uniformity, making it a cost effective and unobtrusive solution to meet standards for public lighting codes.
Planet Lighting UK distributor Wila Lighting worked closely with the Darke Group to supply double handrail illuminated with over 300 warm white (3000K) HLS LED handrail minipucks. In this instance, Darke Tech elected to drill, rebate and cut the M16 x 1 thread in their facory (see image) prior to final installation on site. One of the advantage of the HLS LED handrail system is easy and fast retro-fit on site, using the Planet Lighting designed and engineer drill jig set. Holes can be drilled, rebated and threaded in under a minute with perfect results.
The majority of HLS installations are in public areas, as one of the main features of the minipuck is vandal resistance. The thread locking mechanism of the HLS minipuck and the unique tool required for insertion and removal prevents vandalism and theft. The fixture achieves the highest impact rating available IK10 – European Standard EN62262.
